Hello there! Where do I even start? There is so much I would like to talk about here, but I don't even know how to begin! Every topic I come up with has no relation to the next, even though they are all so interesting to me. Let us start off with an extremely condensed version of my life story, starting off with my freshman year in college.
When I first came to college, I decided it would be a great idea to major in astronomy. I loved looking at stars and trying to wrap my mind around these huge balls of searing hot gas, some larger than a thousand suns combined. Halfway through my sophomore year in college, though, I had a change of heart. I loved astronomy, and still do, but I realized something was missing in my life: art. So, I switched my major to something so polar opposite to astronomy that it even freaked me out a little bit, that major being interior design.
Once I spent a few semesters in design, falling in love with the concept of creating beautiful, tangible spaces for a living, I started to feel like something was missing again. I did really miss astronomy, but it was unrealistic for me to double major because of how long it would take. So after a lot of thinking, I chose to get a certificate (minor) in mathematics. But then I realized something really, really cool. If I took three more classes (not realizing how difficult they would be), I could major in math! So here I am, a double major in interior design and mathematics, with a cool *bonus!!* certificate in textile science. Strange, right? Whenever I tell people what I'm doing in college, they always give me the same response: "Oh, cool... Wait... What!?" as if a mundane, cliche conversation turned into something a little more out of the ordinary. To respond to this, I tell them pretty much the only thing I know: "I just love them both!" which is true!
I guess I am one of those people who enjoy using both the left and right side of their brain, the right side being creative and artistic, and the left side being analytic and logical. There is something I really enjoy about working with numbers and variables. Proving mathematical statements is also enjoyable for me. Even though proofs can be very difficult to do, once I am able to definitively say that a statement holds true for all numbers within a specified range, I forget all of the challenges I just faced, and simply think, "Wow. That's awesome."
Apart from mathematics, interior design (and design in general) is a huge part of my life now. Growing up, I always imagined myself being an archaeologist or surgeon, something in the sciences. My favorite activity was always creating things in art class and spending time at home making stuff with glitter glue and stamps. I never thought that I'd ever be able to turn my love for design into a career. I think that is what I was concerned with from a very young age. That's essentially what I'm trying to do now. I love math and always will, but as of now, I see my career path going in a more artistic direction.
Overall, I want this blog to show my thoughts, collect my memories, and define who I am as a person. In writing this post, I continuously thought about what the theme for this blog should be. There's only one word that really came to mind that encompasses everything I would want to talk about... LIFE. Everything from events to food, tips to DIY's (Do It Yourselves), funny stories to cool mathematics. Everything that pops in my head, I want to write down. So let the journey begin. Welcome to my crazy, memory-packed, idea-filled mind.
