There will be many posts on this topic. Many, many, many, many posts. During this past summer (2013), I got to take a wonderful trip to the Jungfrau Region of the Swiss Alps, just a few hours away by train from Zurich, Switzerland.
During this trip, I have never once felt more at peace. We hiked for hours every day, often only seeing a couple people taking the same trail. I honestly don't even know where to begin talking about what we saw. I think I will just briefly talk about this picture for now.
We saw this landscape on our hike coming down from the top of the Schilthorn Mountain, which is the second tallest mountain in the Jungfrau Region of the Swiss Alps. We were originally going to hike up the mountain (which we did) and then take the cable car down, but we had no idea how expensive the cable car ride would be! So instead of spending ~90 euros per person to ride a cable car back down to our village, we decided to hike, sore legs and all, back down to where we started.
About a half hour into the hike back down the mountain, we found an alternate route going through this valley high up within the mountains. It is crazy to think now that if we were willing to spend the money to take the cable car, we would have never seen this beautiful site.
Much of the hike that day was very foggy. Many people would see this as being awful, but I saw it as being amazingly magical and beautiful. As we were hiking, the fog would gradually roll in and cover the path. Every now and then it would mist for a few minutes, just enough to cool us off, and then stop. The fog would then break away, showing a breathtaking view of the mountain range around us.
